As all of our gyms are going to be more crowded starting tomorrow, keep in mind that you were once a beginner. Be courteous. It’s hard enough to get to the gym when you’re overweight. Don’t be the reason someone decides not to go back!
With that being said, I thought today would be a good day to discuss TIPS for beginners 👍🏼
🔹First, make sure you have control of your nutrition. Determine how many calories your body needs and create a healthy deficit to lose weight. Nutrition is the biggest factor in weight loss, hands down!
🔹Start off with a small, obtainable goal. When I first started, I didn’t focus on losing over 100 pounds. Instead, I would work towards losing weight in 10 pound increments. This helped with seeing progress towards the long term goal. My efforts weren’t going to waste because I was still celebrating the small victories on the way to my ultimate goal.
🔹There are a ton of apps that are helpful. I don’t think there is a fitspo on IG that doesn’t use MyFitnessPal. Check it out! My Apple Watch personally motivates me like crazy. It’s expensive, but in my opinion, it is worth it.
🔹When going to the gym, go in with a plan! What are your goals for the day? Cardio, strength training? Walking in with a purpose makes all the options seem less intimidating. If you’re looking to strength train, the app FitBod really helped me. If you don’t track your workouts via the app, it’s free and it will give you workouts to target specific muscle groups as well as video demonstrations and clear instructions on proper form.
🔹Incorporate more exercise into your daily routine! If you aren’t comfortable heading to the gym yet, take a walk around your neighborhood, walk around your office at lunch, purposefully park farther away at the grocery store!
🔹Don’t let one bad meal ruin your entire day, week, month! 🙅🏼‍♀️so you overindulge at lunch one day....get back on track with dinner! Don’t try to justify another bad meal just because “I already ate bad.”
🔹 Last, but definitely not least....DRINK YOUR WATER 💦
